Based around the look and feel of the Old South. The community will be full of flare and charm and will be unlike any other Calgary community. The architectural themes are from the colonial era with Victorian, Greek, and Italian styles.

Taravista was started in 2000 with the construction of a 14 acre storm water lake, and more than 260 single family lots, multi family sites, and a 10.5 acre commercial site. Located in Northeast Calgary, Taravista is only 15 minutes from Downtown Calgary, and only 10 minutes to the Calgary International Airport. Amenities are all close by including: Peter Lougheed General Hospital, the C-Train (Light Rail Transit system), which is being extended in the near future to Westwinds Industrial Park (only a 5 minute drive away), Sunridge Shopping Centre, and a major employment center (Westwinds Industrial Park - home to Nortel's major Calgary facility).

A wide variety of housing can be found in Taravista. Over 300 homes have already been built in Taravista, and cover a wide range of prices and styles, from $140,000 starter homes, to $350,000 lake side estate homes. In 2002, more than 430 new homesites will be added to Taravista in Phase 3 through 6, again covering an extensive selection of housing styles.

The 14 acre storm water lake is bordered by an extensive pathway and park system, which includes a gazebo / meeting area. A total of more than 3000 homes will be built in Taravista, with more than 9000 people calling Taravista home. Future plans will include a major commercial center to be constructed by Safeway at Saddletowne Circle and 80th Ave (NW corner of Taravista), along with the future extension of the C-Train (light rail transit) to this commercial site.
